Workshop Commissions

Commissions

Commissioning an artist can feel daunting to some, however with our expertise we ensure a thoroughly enjoyable & rewarding adventure.

Commissions are integral to Meltdowns. Our artists are competent in using many different mediums, techniques & processes as commissions can vary from the production of a contemporary visual artwork to the fulfillment of project briefs with more traditional outcomes.

From stately homes, English Heritage sites, open public spaces to private collections we have been commissioned to produce public artworks that include fountains, historic monuments, portraits, community projects, architectural features, statues, maritime & war memorials.

Our workshop is unique. We can do all the work on site including any bronze casting & installation which keeps costs competitive & us able to keep you up to date at every step of the process.

We always respect the aims & intentions of our clients & although we offer advice on the technical & aesthetic aspects of potential projects, we do not impose our own views on them against our clients wishes!

If you are thinking about commissioning a piece of work but are unfamiliar with the process, we have listed a few simple steps to follow here as an example for when commissioning a large sculpture.

Meet the Artist
If you are interested in commissioning a work, please arrange a meeting with us to discuss your ideas, the time & cost involved so that we can then structure an itinerary.

Contracts
Once everything has been agreed the contracts can be drawn up for both parties.

Portfolio & Maquette
Usually a portfolio of drawings is created for you to choose from, then a maquette can be produced to help the you understand the proposition in three dimensions.

Completion
The creation of the sculpture in clay can then be undertaken & when finished you are invited to the studio for a private viewing. If you are happy with the artwork, it can then proceed to the bronze casting stage.

Transporting & installation are also available on request.
