Workshop Restoration

Restoration

Our bronze sculpture restoration service is based on many years of practical experience, research, & a passion for proper conservation, restoration & foundry practice. Over the years we have worked closely with galleries, heritage organisations, local government, artists & collectors to restore both large & small artworks, public monuments & statuary. Ideally, if you adhere to a good maintenance programme (which we can provide), there should be little need for restoration, but unfortunately many works fail to escape vandalism, weathering, accidents & of course time itself.

Consultancy
If you have a small bronze that you would like restoring or re-patinating, simply email us with a photo & details of the work including it's measurements & any object history that may be useful. We can then assess the work & then send you a quote as soon as is possible.

For larger works that are permanently installed in situ, pending on the photographs & details received, we may have to visit the site & produce a Restoration Evaluation. This document has been very helpful for people when grants for restoration work are being sought or decisions have needed to be made on whether to restore an artwork. Quotes for evaluations will vary according to the size of the artwork & its location.

Restoration of smaller works
Once you have decided to commission the restoration of your bronze sculpture, you will be asked to deliver the artwork to the workshop. We will take it from there & will notify you on completion.

Restoration of larger works off site
Once the Restoration Evaluation is complete, we will then produce the Method Statement required prior to the restoration programme. This details what the issues are, what methods we are going to employ, a proposed schedule of work & the appropriate risk assessments within the 'ten point plan' (those of you working within local government will especially know what we are talking about).

Once this has been agreed, we can then start the enjoyable part of actually restoring your bronze artwork.

Routine maintenance programmes
After we have finished the restoration, to avoid such work being done again, we can offer you a routine maintenance programme. Depending on the type of work, this usually means a visit from us once a year to conduct the appropriate programme of care. If you would like us to book you in to our UK wide annual programme, you would be more than welcome.

If you would like us to provide you with a quote for some work, please fill in this form & email it to us.

For more information, please do not hesitate to contact us. If you would like to have a look at the profile of our teaching & technical staff here as well as Meltdowns’, we are putting together a profile archive for you. If you would like to attend one of our courses relevant to this process, please do have a look at our current programme. Finally, have a read, if you are interested in using the workshop yourself.
